Spanish fruit and vegetable exports grow in value despite stability in volume

The European Union remains the most important market for Spanish fruits and vegetables, accounting for 84% of exports.

The fresh fruit and vegetable export sector in Spain has shown a notable trend during the first half of 2025: although the total volume has remained at similar levels to the previous year, its value has experienced a significant increase of 8,94%, reaching 10.967 million euros. According to the data, Foreign sales amounted to 6,6 million tons, which represents a slight decrease of 0,21% compared to the same period in 2024. However, the value of these products on the international market has offset this stagnation in quantity.

 

Differentiated growth by category

 

Vegetables, in particular, saw a 2,75% drop in volume, totaling 3,2 million tons. Despite this, their value increased by 5,44%, reaching €4.981 billion. Within this group, lettuce and peppers were the most exported products in volume, with 456 and 455 tons respectively. However, peppers remained the leader in value, generating €1.062 billion, followed by tomatoes with €677,5 million.

 

Fruits, for their part, showed a more robust performance, with increases in both volume and value. Exports totaled 3,4 million tons, 2,28% more than the previous year, which translated into €5.988 billion, an increase of 12,04%.

 

The European Union, the main destination and the situation of tomatoes

 

La European Union It remains the most important market for Spanish fruits and vegetables, accounting for 84% of exports. Germany, leads the list of destination countries, with 1,89 million tons, followed by France and UK.

 

A focal point in the report is the situation of tomatoes. Despite representing 12% of vegetable exports, their export volume fell by 10%. At the same time, tomato imports from Morocco increased by 56%, contributing to a total increase in tomato imports of 45,6% in Spain.

The report also highlights the growth in fresh fruit and vegetable imports, which increased by 9,09% in volume (2,4 million tons) and 14,72% in value (2.956 billion euros). France remains the main source of these imports.
