Indra, a global leader in defense technologies, and Tata Advanced Systems, one of India's leading aerospace and defense firms, has successfully completed the delivery of the first radar 3D-ASR–Lanza-N to the Indian Navy. This system, designed for long-range air and missile defense, has been fully integrated with the rest of the ship's systems.
According to the information provided, the radar's acceptance followed extensive sea trials, in which its target detection performance was evaluated with different radar sections, using various naval and air platforms.
This milestone demonstrates the defense collaboration between India and Spain to deliver defense systems.
state-of-the-art air surveillance radar
The project is not limited to the delivery of a single radar. Following this first milestone, both companies are already working on the implementation of additional radars on frigates, destroyers, and aircraft carriers of the Indian Navy. To expedite this process and ensure local support, an assembly, integration, and testing facility has been established at Tata Advanced Systems in Karnataka.
Ana Buendía, director of Indra's Naval Business Unit, highlighted that "this project goes far beyond the delivery and installation of radars on a large number of vessels." She added: "It has also allowed us to establish a significant collaboration with Tata Advanced Systems, with whom we have worked to create a radar factory in BangaloreThis now provides us with local support to produce systems more efficiently and offer closer customer service.”
For its part, Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Advanced Systems, emphasized that the collaboration with Indra "reflects a shared commitment to strengthening radar manufacturing capabilities in India." He also noted that "by leveraging local synergies, technical expertise, and a robust domestic supply chain, we are building a robust ecosystem for advanced defense technologies."
The delivery of this radar not only strengthens the Indian Navy's defense capability but also consolidates the alliance between the Spanish and Indian defense industries, boosting technology transfer and local production.
