Mayor Jaume Collboni highlighted that Barcelona is the first city to have a strategic document that "clearly defines the priority lines of bilateral cooperation"
Priority Areas of Collaboration
The "India Chapter" not only reviews the strong existing bilateral relations—including institutional missions, agreements, trade exchanges and the growing Indian tourism in Catalonia—but also identifies the synergies between think tankseconomic agents and cities.
The plan defines specific lines of action for bilateral collaboration, which include: Talent Acquisition and Research: Focus on biotechnology and academic mobility; Urban Projects and Logistics: Boosting logistics promotion and urban development; Entrepreneurial Ecosystem: Support startups Indian and Catalan women, and finally, Diaspora and Tourism: Strengthening support for the Indian diaspora and promoting tourism.
The ultimate goal, as Collboni explained, is for the City Council to initiate "a new relationship with India to turn Barcelona into a true gateway from the country and all of Asia to southern Europe," thus reinforcing the city's role as an international benchmark.
