ASAJA advocates for a strong CAP that unites the EU

Science, technology and biotechnology are indispensable tools

The president of ASAJA participated in a roundtable discussion on "The CAP from an agricultural and environmental perspective" alongside representatives of environmental organizations.

“Now more than ever we need a CAP Powerful, effective and with sufficient budget to meet the commitment of feeding 500 million people and responsibly managing and uniting 80% of the community territory," he said. This forum has brought together more than 300 experts from the food industry, and representatives from all administrations, community, have participated in it, with the EU Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan, national, with the Minister of Agriculture, Isabel Garcia Tejerina, and autonomous, with the Councilors of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development of all the autonomous regions.

 

President of HANDLE, who participated in a round table on “The CAP from the agricultural and environmental perspective” together with leaders of environmental organizations, has emphasized the need for the CAP to continue being “a basic priority on the community agenda because we must face our commitment to feed 500 million Europeans and at the same time conserve the territory and create employment in rural areas and in our towns, that is, achieve economic, social and territorial cohesion. This forum has brought together more than 300 experts from the agri-food sector, and representatives from all administrations have participated.

 

 

 

For this we need, in his opinion, “a CAP Consistent with the times we live in, with globalized and extremely volatile markets, we must be able to provide effective market management solutions and impose transparency and fairness in trade relations. But we also want a CAP that promotes innovation in favor of sustainable productive development, with no limitations other than those that science can impose to protect human, animal, and environmental health.

 

President of HANDLE He explained that more and more farmers are combining conservation agriculture practices, such as no-till farming, with the latest technology in precision agriculture, and the combination of the two is yielding very positive results in reducing emissions, sequestering carbon, saving water, and saving production costs. Year after year, the number of Ecological Focus Areas (EFAs) and the number of hectares dedicated to environmentally sensitive pastures is growing because "there are few agricultural policies in the world that take the environment more into account than the CAP, through very rigorous and conservation-oriented legislation."
