First implementation of WiFi calling service for customers
It will increase loyalty, improve coverage and reduce costs
Atos announces that after the launch of its WiFi Calling solution This year, Cell C has launched a Integrated commercial WiFi calling service for your South African customers. With the Atos solution, Cell C can improve customer loyalty, boost indoor coverage and free up traffic on 3G networks.
Cell C foresees a considerable increase in the use of this flexible platform, thanks to the growing number of devices that will support it, as soon as the company's pool of smartphone manufacturers grows. WiFi Calling is fully integrated into the operators network infrastructure and, compared to over-the-top services, it has the advantage of offering better quality and greater reliability and, most importantly, a seamless user experience.
Customers can make and receive calls using the same mobile number while accessing the same services such as voicemail, SMS or prepaid services. Thanks to the technology From Lydrasoft, customers use the same interfaces on their phones, such as dialer, contact book, and settings. Atos has the capabilities, technology, alliances and IP integrated into its WiFi Calling platform to enable this new and innovative service, all to offer an excellent and seamless user experience.
“Cell C has worked on this project with the world’s leading distributors, including Atos, which has collaborated closely with the equipment manufacturers with whom Cell C will launch it. It has been one of the fastest deployments of the service on a global scale, and having access to the most important distributors has allowed the process to run like a well-oiled machine,” says Dos Santos, CEO at Cell C.
Cell C's WiFi Calling platform has several advantages, including integration into the mobile dialer, which simplifies the service for customers. The service also supports SMS and USSD over WiFi and will be available to both prepaid and postpaid customers and customers will be able to continue using existing services without interruption.
Cell C's WiFi Calling service will also benefit international travelers, who will be able to make calls at local South African rates as long as they connect to the WiFi network. Atos is now ready to roll out its WiFi Calling platform worldwide. Francis Meston, CEO IMEA of Atos, said: “This is a huge technological leap forward for operators, as well as for businesses and consumer users. WiFi Calling allows CSPs to offer better voice call quality, reduce infrastructure costs, and provide additional services to both businesses and consumers. Atos paves the way for IMS services such as integration with Lync and Skype for Business. We are proud that Cell C is one of the first operators to launch this solution on such a large scale. The collaboration with Cell C has been exemplary.”
About WiFi Calling
The WiFi Calling solution is intended for CSPs and, more specifically, mobile network operators and mobile virtual network operators. At a time when CSPs have to address the increasing expectations of their customers, WiFi Calling offers them an extraordinary opportunity to:
Improve customer loyalty – by offering them cheap, high-quality calls via WiFi, even while roaming abroad.
Boost coverage and reduce customer churn – coverage is one of the main criteria for both consumers and businesses when choosing an operator. WiFi Calling can quickly address coverage issues.
Offloading traffic from 3G networks and reducing costs – operators are being hit by an incredible surge in data. WiFi is a cost-effective way to free up a large volume of data traffic from the radio access network via WiFi, reducing or postponing the capital investment needed for 4G deployment.
Monetizing new revenue-generating models – CSPs can offer their customers value-added services such as advertising, location, and analytics, via WiFi.
