Summary of the Newsletter – Foreign Business, Monday, February 3, 2025, edition 4.146

Good morning! We begin this newsletter with the news that is shaking up international markets: The White House has confirmed the imposition of 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada. This measure, promoted by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, seeks to redefine trade relations between North America's neighbors and other countries such as China. With its entry into force on February 1, the global panorama faces possible large-scale economic repercussions.

And we turn our attention to Europe, where the Spanish Minister José Manuel Albares and his Hungarian counterpart Péter Szijjártó have strengthened bilateral cooperation between Spain and Hungary. This strategic agreement promises to boost economic and trade relations between the two countries, consolidating their commitment to joint development.

At a national level, the Ministry of Finance has launched a measure that seeks to alleviate the burden on companies engaged in foreign trade. From now on, sanctions on import and export operations will be reduced, with discounts of up to 50%. An important incentive that will help many companies adjust their margins in times of economic uncertainty.

We now move on to Latin America, where COFIDES will collaborate with the company Aleatica in the construction of a strategic highway that will connect Mexico City with Morelia and Guadalajara. This infrastructure project will not only significantly reduce travel time, but will also generate a positive impact on the regional economy.

In the energy sector, Spain reaffirms its leadership in renewables. The company Ayesa has been selected to complete the engineering of the largest solar complex in the world, developed by Plenitude in Badajoz. This mega-installation will generate 660 GWh annually, marking a milestone in the country's energy transition.

On the other hand, the company SanLucar has joined forces with the Swedish giant Greenfood to offer top quality fruit and vegetables in Sweden throughout the year. Another example of the expansion of the Spanish agro-industry in key international markets.

GlobalSuite Solutions, for its part, is celebrating its international expansion after adding more than 60 new strategic partners. The company, which specialises in Government, Risk and Compliance solutions, is thus strengthening its position in the global market.

From Paraguay, President Santiago Peña called for multilateralism during a speech at the World Trade Organization. Peña stressed the importance of international cooperation to address economic and trade challenges.

And in Spain, FEPEX, the Federation of Producers and Exporters of Fruit and Vegetables, has warned of the challenges facing the fruit and vegetable sector. At a meeting with the President of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, support measures were discussed to ensure the sustainability of the sector.

On the European stage, the European Commission has announced a historic investment of 1.250 billion euros in cross-border energy infrastructure. This package of projects will strengthen competitiveness and contribute to the decarbonisation of the European energy system.

In terms of corporate finance, the recent 38th Cesce General Convention in Granada was a great success, bringing together representatives from Spain, Portugal and Latin America to address the prospects of the insurance and financial market.

We conclude with Argentina, where the Vice Minister of Justice, Sebastián Amerio, presented a series of reforms in Madrid aimed at strengthening legal security and attracting foreign investment. Meanwhile, Banco Sabadell organised a session on business opportunities in the United States, highlighting the incentives for Spanish companies wishing to expand in the North American country.

That's all for today. Stay informed with us at Empresa Exterior. Have a great day!
