Brussels allocates 18 million euros for Chernobyl reactor formwork

The European Commission announced the allocation of 18 million euros for the formwork work of the reactor and facilities of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which exploded in April 1986, in line with the commitments made by the EU at the International Donors Conference held in Berlin in July 2000.
On that occasion, the Fifteen announced that they would allocate a total of €100 million between 2001 and 2004. The third installment is the aforementioned €18 million, following the allocation of €40 million in 2001 and €20 million in 2002. Before 2000, the EU had already provided €90,5 million for the security of the affected area.
