The five-star hotel chain Mandarin Oriental will open its first establishment in Spain, in Barcelona in 2009, under the management model, company executives announced.
The new hotel will be located in the center of Barcelona, on Paseo de Gracia, and, according to the same sources, it adheres to the criteria that this chain applies in its luxury establishments.
Mandarin Oriental currently has twenty hotels distributed throughout Asia, Europe and America, and expects to reach 37 by the end of 2010, offering a total of 10.000 beds at that time.
Regarding the opening of another establishment in Spain, the possibility of Madrid is being studied, although they acknowledged that it is very complicated because it is difficult to find a building suitable for the installation of a hotel of this chain.
Possibilities in Valencia and the Costa del Sol are also being explored.
