More efficient and sustainable supply chains: the main challenge of the Spanish fruit and vegetable sector

More than 25 leading fruit and vegetable companies met at the collaborative meeting "Greener, fresher, more CHEP", organized by CHEP Spain, to address the main challenges of the sector and define joint strategies for a more sustainable and efficient future.

The need to optimize the supply chain and reduce its environmental impact was positioned as the main challenge. The participants agreed on the urgency of implementing innovative and digital solutions that improve product traceability, reduce food waste and optimize transportation routes.

 

The meeting, held in Almeria, had the participation of representatives of companies such as Agroponiente, Biosabor and Mercophal, who shared their experiences and strategies regarding sustainability and efficiency in the supply chain.

For her part, Mª Dolores Morales, General Director of Biosabor, highlighted the importance of organic production as part of a broader sustainability strategy. "Organic production is not only a way to respect the environment, but also to offer healthier, higher-quality products to consumers," he noted.

 

Juan José Vargas, Manager of Mercophal, emphasized the importance of quality and food safety in the context of a sustainable supply chain. "At Mercophal, we strive to ensure that each of our products meets the highest standards, while also working to reduce our environmental impact," he stated.

At the end of the day, the participating companies received the CHEP Sustainability Certificate, which recognizes its contributions to reducing emissions in the regions of Murcia and Andalusia. This certificate is a testament to the commitment of the Spanish fruit and vegetable sector to environmental sustainability.
