CAF has signed three major contracts in Egypt, strengthening its relationship with the country's Ministry of Transport and consolidating its international expansion strategy. The agreements, financed through the Fund for the Internationalization of Companies (FIEM), managed by the Spanish State Secretariat for Trade, have a total value of more than 450 million euros.
The first contract covers the Comprehensive modernization of 39 units on Line 2 The metro system, an intervention that seeks to extend its useful life by an additional 20 years. The improvements include the renovation of the traction systems, TCMS, auxiliary converters, and brakes. In addition, new passenger service systems, video surveillance cameras (CCTV), and Wi-Fi connectivity will be installed, along with a complete renovation of the interior and exterior. To carry out this work, the Shubra workshop, which will be the production center for this ambitious project, will be modernized.
The second agreement, which will be implemented in parallel with the modernization, focuses on the Complete maintenance of the same 39 units of Line 2 for a period of ten yearsThis service includes resetting mechanical systems and components to ensure train reliability and safety.
Finally, the third contract focuses on the maintenance, also for a period of ten years, Of the 23 units of Line 1 Cairo Metro. These units, which are currently being modernized by CAF under an agreement signed in 2021, will begin receiving this service once the renovation process is complete.
