CAF reinforces its leadership in sustainable urban mobility with new tram contracts in Bologna and Rome

CAF continues to consolidate its presence in Italy with the recent award of two key contracts in the cities of Bologna and Rome, for a total value of 200 million euros.

In Bologna, the city council has awarded CAF a Framework Contract for the supply and maintenance of up to 60 trams, of which an initial order has been signed for 33 units, valued at more than 130 million euros. The units belong to the Urbos platform, designed to optimize energy efficiency and minimize visual impact, thanks to the on-board energy storage system (OESS), which allows operation without catenaries. This contract is part of an ambitious sustainable urban mobility plan for the city, financed by the recovery funds of the European Union, which seeks to reduce pollution and improve accessibility.

CAF had already recently won other contracts in Italy, such as the supply of trams for Palermo and hydrogen and electric buses for cities such as Venice, Milan and Cagliari.

On the other hand, in Rome, the operator ATAC SpA has decided to extend the tram contract it had signed with CAF at the end of last year, adding 20 additional trams to the initial order of 40 units. As in BoloniaThese units will be equipped with the OESS system, and the contract includes maintenance of the vehicles for 5 years. This project is part of ATAC's efforts to modernize its fleet and prepare new transport lines in the Italian capital.
