The Canary Islands are promoting climate resilience and urban development in Senegal through the ATCLIMA project

 

At the end of January 2026, a technical mission of Proexca y Gesplan moved to Dakar, Senegal, to define the main guidelines for the upcoming technical assistance of the project ATCLIMA. This initiative of capitalization It seeks to improve environmental resilience and urban planning in the region through strategic cooperation.

 

Strengthening technical cooperation in West Africa

 

The institutional meeting has allowed the Canary Islands technicians to hold high-level meetings with strategic local partners, among which the following stand out: ADEPME OFFICIEL (Agence de Développement et d'Encadrement des PME) and the SAPCO-Sénégal SA (Senegal Coastal and Tourist Areas Development Society). During the mission, representatives from the Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible (METE) —through the Dirección de Parques Nacionales— and from Ministerio de Urbanismo, Vivienda y Ordenación del Territorio (MUCTAT) de SenegalThese alliances are fundamental for the business strengthening and the creation of high-impact public services in the fight against climate change.

 

Priority areas for action and development

 

The joint identification of problems has focused on four fundamental axes for regional development:

 

  • Climate change and environmental resilience: Implementation of adaptation measures in infrastructure.
  • Management and conservation: Protection of strategic natural areas.
  • Territorial planning: Improvement of urban planning and housing.
  • Sustainable tourism: Development of coastal areas under sustainability criteria.

 

The project, formally named as "Dynamic System of Business Consulting in the Development of High-Impact Infrastructure and Public Services", reinforces the role of Canarias as a strategic bridge between Europa y África Occidental.
