The Canary Islands are promoting their audiovisual sector at the Cannes Film Festival in search of alliances.

 

The event is taking place with great anticipation. 78th edition of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, an event that brought together leading companies from the Canary Islands' audiovisual sector. Their presence at this important international showcase was made possible thanks to the strong support of Canary Islands Film and Proexca, entities committed to the internationalization of the archipelago's companies in strategic sectors.

 

Within the framework of the festival, Canarian companies have actively participated in the Marche du Film, a crucial event bringing together producers, distributors, sales agents, publicists, festival organizers, artistic representatives, television broadcasters, and film technical service providers from around the world.

 

Canary Productions, Ecija Legal & Advisory Canarias SL, E-media Canary Projects SL and Seven Islands Film They have come to Cannes with the help of Audiovisual Cluster of the Canary Islands, thanks to a sectoral plan developed in collaboration with ProexcaThe main objective of these companies, according to Cluster sources, is threefold: to establish co-productions, promote and sell their projects, find financing, and, crucially, expand their professional network. They also seek to stay abreast of the latest news and trends that shape the future of the sector.

 

Along with these companies, other entities that are part of the dynamic and growing Canarian audiovisual ecosystem are also participating in the festival independently, demonstrating the strength and diversity of the industry on the islands.

 

A highlight during the festival was the premiere of a Canarian film produced by The Journey FilmsThis film project benefited from the Culture Department's minority co-production fund and, following its participation in the San Sebastián International Film Festival with the support of Proexca, secured important deals for its promotion at Cannes.

 

The Cannes Film Festival's Marché du Film has established itself as the most important global professional event for the film industry. It attracts professionals from all areas of cinema and covers all forms and genres at every stage of production, from project conception to the distribution of finished feature films. Its primary objective is to facilitate the purchase, sale, financing, distribution, and co-production of films. It also offers a wide range of specialized programs aimed at various industry segments, including co-production, documentaries, animation, genre films, extended reality (XR), and innovation.

 

The 2024 edition of the Marché du Film set a historic record with over 15.000 professionals from 140 countries attending, surpassing the previous year's figure of 14.000. This year's event featured an expanded agenda of events and programs, including over 1.500 screenings and the participation of more than 500 exhibitors. Attendees had access to over 250 industry events, including 80 conferences that addressed the latest trends and strategies in the world of film. The Canary Islands' presence in this context underscores the region's commitment to strengthening its position on the international audiovisual scene through collaboration and the pursuit of new strategic alliances.
