Canary Islands and Mauritania strengthen trade ties after a historic business mission

 

The mission, which was conceived within the framework of the president's visit Peg, had as its main objective to strengthen trade relations between Canary Islands and Mauritania, the main destination for Canary Islands exports. To this end, meetings were organised with public and private agents, where concerns were discussed, solutions were explored and joint work paths were outlined.

 

The Canary Islands delegation, accompanied by the delegates of the foreign network of Proexca en Morocco y Senegal, Elvira Butler and Martin Déniz Mesa, respectively, participated in a program tailored to their sectoral interests. Highlighted activities include visits to the port of Nouakchott, the container terminal, the facilities of Zamakona and Port Equipment Society.

 

In addition, the Canarian businessmen held meetings with representatives of Mauritania Airlines, the Ministries of Equipment and Transport, Fisheries and Maritime Economy, and Health, as well as with the heads of hospitals and health centres. The mission, organized by Proexca in collaboration with the Mauritania-Spain Business Council (CAMES), has laid the foundations for a new stage of cooperation in strategic sectors

 

 

The icing on the cake of the mission was the participation in the meeting of the CAM, promoted by the chambers of commerce of Spain and Mauritania, with the leadership of the chambers of Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de TenerifeDuring the event, inaugurated by Clavijo, Mauritanian and Canarian businessmen shared conclusions and agreed to the creation of four working committees: air transport, port services, health sector and project financing.

 

The President of the Chamber of Mauritania, Cheikh El-Avia Ould Mohamed Khouna, Director General for Relations with Africa, Luis Padilla Maccabee, and the ambassador of Spain in Mauritania, Miriam Alvarez de la Rosa, also participated in the CAMES meeting, which was co-chaired by Mohamed Walled (WIMEX) and Ana B. Suarez Calvo (Binter).

 

"This mission has been a fundamental step in consolidating the Canary Islands as a logistics and commercial platform between Europe and Africa," said Fernando Clavijo, President of the Government of the Canary Islands.

 

"Mauritania is a key strategic partner for the Canary Islands, and we are committed to further strengthening our trade ties," declared Cheikh El-Avia Ould Mohamed Khouna, President of the Mauritanian Chamber of Commerce.
