Castilla-La Mancha demands a specific program for olive trees in the new CAP

During his participation in the First Oil of the Campaign Festival, organized by the company Aceites García de la Cruz, Martínez Guijarro emphasized that this program is crucial to "consider what needs to be changed and improved in the sector" in a strategic way.

Outright Rejection of the European Commission's Proposal

The position of the regional Executive, led by Emiliano García-Page, remains frontal rejection Regarding the CAP proposal put forward by the European Commission, the First Vice-President insisted that this proposal entails a "radical reduction" in funding, which implies a severe cut in essential rural development programs.

These cuts would directly affect fundamental support lines such as incorporation of young farmers and the funding that reaches the Rural Development Groups. Martínez Guijarro recalled that, in response to this situation, the regional government is working on a alternative proposal to the rules of operation of the CAP, in collaboration with the agricultural sector and other administrations.

The demand for a specific program is based on the growing importance of the olive tree for the regional economy. Castilla-La Mancha has established itself as the second olive-producing region in Spain —only behind Andalusia— and the third in the world.

With more than 460.000 hectares and near 83.000 olive growers By 2024, olive trees have already surpassed vineyards in surface area within the Autonomous Community. This expansion has resulted in a significant increase in production: the last campaign recorded 145.421 tons of olive oil, a growth of almost 34% compared to the previous year, according to data from the regional government. This productive importance underscores the need for the sector to have adequate support and reflection in the new CAP.
