The IV Port Logistics Conference held in Seville

The capacity of the Sevillian port stands out

The Port Authority of Seville has put out to tender the drafting of the project to enable 17.000 square meters of the Armament dock for the movement of goods, especially for project cargo.

The president of the Port Authority of Seville (APS), Rafael Carmona, has announced new investments to reinforce the role of the port of Seville as a strategic enclave in Andalucía for industrial logistics and for the attraction of new traffic. In this sense, the president advanced that the Port Authority of Seville has put out to tender the drafting of the project to enable 17.000 square meters of the Armament dock for the movement of goods, especially for project cargo.

 

For its part, Ángel Pulido, director of the Port Authority of Seville, has presented the progress of the project AIRIS that digitizes the Guadalquivir through sensors in the estuary. This project has European funding CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) and it is expected to be operational in the first half of next year. Among its applications, AIRIS includes tools for the practical, such as PPU (Portable Pilots Unit) that offer high precision information about the position of the ship and its surroundings.

 

These statements took place at the inauguration of the IV Port Logistics Conference, which was also attended by the mayor of Seville, John Swords; the vice-counselor of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interior, Antonio Sanz; and the director of Operation of State Ports, Leandro Melgar.

 

During the welcome to the logistical meeting, Rafael Carmona, has highlighted the capabilities of the Sevillian port. “We have a large surface area, not only to coordinate loading and unloading operations, but also for the implementation of manufacturing centers that reduce logistics costs due to their proximity to the dock,” the president stressed. In addition, “we have logistics operators that offer customized door-to-door services, from the production center to its final destination,” he stated.

 

“If man can make it, he can also transport it,” said the president of the APS, who recalled that in the Sevillian docks we have moved “from power transformers from the multinational ABB to United States, wind towers of the largest wind farm in the world - on the southeast coast of England -, pieces for a megabridge in to Canada, aeronautical equipment Airbus…even beer tanks for the factory that Heineken It has in Seville. And the forecasts are favorable for the coming years.”

 

Likewise, the president made reference to the rise in industrial production, which finds its main focus of activity in the Astilleros industrial estate, and valued the work of the companies that operate there (MEGUSA, Tecade, GRI, Ditecsa, Gmetal, Apimosa and Astilleros del Guadalquivir).

 

Finally, he recalled the recent agreement signed with the Sevilla University for the construction of an Innovation Center that adds value to logistics and industry and described the Sevillian port as “a meeting point, not only for administrations, companies, institutions, organizations and society in general; but also for the entire port community.”

 

More than 200 attendees gathered today at the Seville Aquarium at a meeting co-organized by the APS, ProSevillaPort and GRI Renewable Industries. Representatives of industrial companies, manufacturers, logistics operators, shippers, shipowners, forwarders, stevedores, brokers, end customers from all over Spain and part of Europe have shared experiences at the annual logistics meeting in Seville.
