CPB Contractors has signed a letter of intent with Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora to build the inpatient unit. The eleven-story facility is designed for efficiency and patient-centered care. Upon opening, it will have 371 beds, plus an additional 58 spaces for the emergency department.

Juan Santamaría , CEO of the ACS Group and Executive Chairman of CIMIC, expressed his pride in the initiative. “We are proud to build this landmark healthcare facility for South Island. The new inpatient ward at New Dunedin Hospital will provide a modern, dedicated infrastructure that will allow us to offer world-class healthcare, both now and for future generations. It reflects our commitment to building resilient, community-focused assets that improve lives and promote long-term well-being,” said Santamaría.

Jason Spears , Managing Director of CPB Contractors, highlighted the company's extensive experience in hospital projects. “Having successfully delivered major award-winning hospital facilities in Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea, CPB Contractors has the industry-leading expertise to carry out this project safely. Our New Zealand-based team will ensure that we maximize economic, employment, training, and social opportunities for the local population and businesses of Dunedin,” Spears stated.

Paul Corbett , General Manager of CPB Contractors in New Zealand, emphasized the collaboration with the local supply chain. “The planning we will follow to build this landmark healthcare infrastructure project has been designed in collaboration with our local supply chain here in New Zealand. The insights they have shared as part of our extensive consultation process have been incredibly valuable in planning this major project, and their help will ensure that this important project not only provides healthcare infrastructure to the Dunedin community but also creates long-term economic value and opportunities for businesses across the South Island,” Corbett said.

Construction of this ambitious project will begin in July 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2030, promising a lasting positive impact on local health and the economy.
