The Council of the National Energy Commission (CNE) will decide next week on the case in which it is studying the increase in the participation of the Franco-Belgian group Suez in Gas Natural, sources from the organization informed Efe today.
The top body of the energy regulator will hold its only meeting of the week tomorrow to analyze reports and files of an ordinary nature, the same sources explained.
On September 27, the CNE opened a ten-day hearing period for the parties involved in the case, Gas Natural, Repsol YPF and Suez, to present their arguments, the last step before adopting a resolution.
In June, Suez asked the agency for permission to increase its stake in Gas Natural from 9,95 to 11,4 percent.
The Franco-Belgian group needs permission to carry out this operation, as it involves exceeding the 10 percent threshold of a company that carries out regulated activities (transport and distribution of gas and electricity).
Four weeks ago, the company's president, Gérard Mestrallet, appeared before the members of the energy regulator's Council to explain his plans for the gas company.
The CNE has requested additional information from Suez after a merger agreement between the Franco-Belgian company and the French company Gaz de Ferance (GDF) was made public.
When the integration is complete, the French State will have a 35 percent stake in the resulting group.
Suez's presence in Gas Natural could require a new administrative procedure if the Franco-Belgian group, which is in the process of merging with Gaz de France (GDF), were to request the Government to fully exercise its political rights in the gas company, as happened with the entry of the Italian company Enel into Endesa.
