CAF is awarded two important contracts in the Nordic Countries

The Norwegian operator VY has reached an agreement with Euromaint for carrying out maintenance for 9 years of the fleet that the Norwegian company will operate for the Bergen Railway, in the Nordic country.

 

The Swedish subsidiary of CAF Group, leader in its country in the segment of maintenance services for trains and railway components, will contribute its extensive experience in the sector, carrying out most of its activity in Bergen, where a new maintenance workshop for the line is currently being built.

 

This contract will mean Euromaint's first establishment in Norway, where it will be able to carry out its activity alongside VY thanks to the deep knowledge of both companies about the local conditions for train operation, as well as the most advanced methods to carry out efficient and quality maintenance on trains.

 

The railway line Bergen (called Bergensbanen) is the train that operates between Oslo and Bergen, it is the highest railway in northern Europe and is known for having been chosen as one of the most beautiful railway routes in Europe.

 

Last December, VY was awarded the contract to manage the operation of the lines of the Bergen Railway, with the aim of increasing long-distance, regional and local train traffic, offering better transport connections in the region and at the same time improving the offer on board the trains in service. Note that VY Group is one of the largest transport groups in the Nordic region, owned by the Norwegian government through the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. It is responsible for the operation of most passenger train services and a large number of bus services in Norway.

 

The acquisition of Euromaint, by the CAF Group last year 2019 reinforced its growing activity in the area of ​​service provision, and with this new contract it also establishes its solid presence in the market of the Nordic countries, where the Group has developed a significant number of projects in recent years.

 

CAF will supply five additional metro units for Helsinki

 

The company HKL (Helsingin kaupungin liikennelaitos), responsible for operating public transport systems in the city of Helsinki, has decided to acquire five new M300 series metro units from CAF, which will be added to the 20 trains that CAF has already supplied to the Finnish capital's metro and that are currently being supplied. are in commercial service.

 

The new units, composed of 4 cars each, will be similar to the existing M300, and will increase the current fleet of units in the Helsinki metro from 45 to 50 trains, since in addition to the 20 M300 trains manufactured by CAF, they currently circulate 6 M200 series trains and 19 M100 trains.

 

The total length of the new trains will be 90 meters and they will have a capacity of approximately 575 passengers, being fully accessible from one end to the other, facilitating mobility between cars during the journey.

 

The operation includes, in addition to the trains, the supply of spare parts for them. The units are scheduled to be delivered throughout 2022, with the aim of facing the increase in traffic expected for the first half of the 2020s on the line. Metro West to Kivenlahti.

 

TMB acquires 14 zero-emission articulated buses from the CAF Group

 

Lastly, note that the Barcelona Metropolitan Transport Company (TMB) made public its decision to purchase 14 electric buses at Solaris, subsidiary of CAF Group.

 

This acquisition is part of TMB's plans to renew and environmentally upgrade the fleet of urban buses in Barcelona and its metropolitan area. Specifically, these new electric vehicles will be used to transform the H16 (Pg. Zona Franca – Foro / Campus Besòs) into the operator's first zero-emissions line.

 

The 14 buses that will be supplied by Solaris belong to the Solaris New Urbino model, 18 meters long and equipped with pantographs for charging the batteries, which can be done quickly en route and more slowly during the stay of the buses. buses at the depot. The units are scheduled to enter service in the Catalan capital at the beginning of 2021.
