Colombia consolidates its position as a destination for sustainable investment: ProColombia highlights its potential

At an event that brought together more than a hundred businessmen and institutional representatives at the headquarters of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) On Madrid, Carmen Caballero, President of ProColombia, highlighted the country's potential as a preferred destination for sustainable investment. Accompanied by the Colombian ambassador in Spain, Eduardo Avila, and Married Narcissus, permanent secretary of the Ibero-American Business Council (CEIB), Caballero highlighted the strategic sectors where Colombia seeks to attract foreign capital: tourism, sustainable development, reindustrialization and energy transition.

The meeting served as a platform to present the existing opportunities in Colombia and to promote closer bilateral collaboration between the two countries. In his speech, Knight emphasized: “Confidence in investment continues to grow in Colombia”, encouraging those present to consider the “Country of Beauty” as a strategic partner thanks to its competitive advantages.

Eduardo Avila He reinforced this vision by describing Colombia as a nation rich in contrasts and opportunities. “It is a nation open to the world,” Ávila said while highlighting the National Development Plan 2022-2026 focused on five key transformations: the human right to food, territorial planning around water, human security, productive economy for life and the fight against climate change.

Among the flagship projects mentioned during the event is the Intermodal Transport Master Plan (PMTI) 2021-2051. This plan seeks to modernize and integrate different modes of transportation—roads, railroads, and waterways—with a view to further strengthening the national infrastructure. In addition, Ávila noted that there are interesting opportunities within the tourism sector focused on sustainable practices.

For its part, Married Narcissus He highlighted the achievements made so far through bilateral collaborations with ProColombia. “With this meeting we consolidate an intense program that contributes to further strengthening already excellent bilateral relations,” Casado declared while announcing future joint initiatives not only between Spain and Colombia but also extending towards African markets thanks to the institutional support of the Canary Islands.

The ProColombia representative also mentioned another highly relevant project. With the support of its highly decarbonized energy matrix, based mainly on renewable energies and a wealth of renewable resources, Colombia is moving towards a new era of sustainable industrialization with the launch of the project GALTCO Colombia or the Complex for the Production of Green Aluminum in Colombia. This involves the creation of a plant that would produce high-purity primary aluminium for export and for the domestic market, reducing dependence on imported raw materials and opening up opportunities for new processing industries.

Finally, Caballero reported that Colombia has free trade agreements with 65 countries; it has numerous tax incentives, thanks to its free trade zones; and it stands out for having very interesting opportunities in the field of energy and in the development of tourism activity in regions with high potential.
