DHL Express promotes the planting of more than 650 trees in the Villaverde district of Madrid, offsetting 90 tons of CO2

DHL Express, the world's leading provider of express transport services, has developed a environmental initiative in the district Villaverde of Madrid, collaborating in the planting of 650 trees, of which 120 have been planted by a group of 60 volunteers, employees of the company. With this action DHL will offset 90 tons of CO2, equivalent to 56% of the emissions generated by the company's own fleet of vehicles, in the Region of Madrid. The initiative is part of the project “Madrid Compensates”, from the Madrid City Council.

 

The objective of this initiative, in line with the company's environmental program, called GoGreen,and its new strategy “Zero Emissions 2050”, is aimed at carrying out actions that contribute to the sustainability of the ecosystem, improving the lives of people in the places where they live and working to offset harmful emissions, in favor of sustainable development.

 

During the planting, the group of volunteers, guided and accompanied by the team of gardeners of the Town Hall, joined together for a day full of awareness about the need to contribute to preserving our environment. After carrying out a group dynamic in which the volunteers performed a representation about the formation of forests, the stone pine and Aleppo pine specimens were planted.

 

 

The objective of this initiative, in line with the company's environmental program, called GoGreen, and its new strategy "Zero Emissions 2050", is aimed at carrying out actions that contribute to the sustainability of the ecosystem.

 

 

According to Marisol Gómez, Director of Communication and CSR at DHL Express Iberia: “We are aware of the environmental impact that the transport sector generates and we are fully committed to the environment, so all the initiatives of our program GoGreen These measures are aimed at offsetting this impact. With this action, we also want to support the efforts of city governments to promote sustainable urban living.

 

Meanwhile Juan Azcárate, Deputy Director of Energy and Climate Change at Madrid City Council He stated: “We want to show our appreciation for the participation of DHL in the Madrid Compensa program. Adherence to this initiative has not only meant offsetting part of the greenhouse gas emissions from the fleet of vehicles DHL in Madrid, but its involvement and the direct participation of employees in planting trees is an example of the sensitivity of this entity towards environmental aspects and its commitment to advance the sustainable development of its activity."

 

DHL was the first company in its sector to set a carbon neutrality target, aiming to reduce emissions by 30% by 2020 compared to 2007 levels. Having already achieved this target in 2016, thanks to a wide range of measures to optimise the Group’s vehicle fleet, buildings and logistics networks, the company has recently announced its commitment to reduce all logistics-related emissions to net zero by 2050, which also includes plans to plant one million trees each year. GoGreen It is part of the Company's Social Responsibility program, which is an integral part of the Strategy of Deutsche Post DHL Group.
