The British international consortium easyGroup has opened its fourth low-cost hotel in central Budapest, following London and the Swiss cities of Basel and Zurich, its owner announced in the Hungarian capital.
Construction of the new easyHotel.com, with a total area of approximately 1.600 square meters, began a year ago and cost 795.000 euros, according to local press reports.
Lawrence Alexander, director of easyHotel.com, said that Budapest is a "major tourist destination in Europe, so it plays a key role in our strategy."
The 59 rooms in the nearly 100-year-old building, aimed at short-stay guests, are simple, very small, and do not include basic services such as television or internet.
Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder and owner of easyJet and easyGroup, said that in 2008 new hotels will open in 18 or 20 cities in Europe, a number that in a few years will reach 60.
The Greek millionaire's hotel group comprises companies such as easyJet, easyCruises, easyHotel and easyTelecom, and specializes in offering low-cost services.
