Ecuador: End of the Correa era.

Presidential elections were held on Sunday, February 19, marking the end of Rafael Correa's term as head of the country.

At the time of writing, with almost 88% of the votes counted, Lenin Moreno, representing the Alianza PAÍS movement, Correa's party, leads the results with 39,1% of the vote, followed by the conservative Guillermo Lasso with 28,2%. If these results are confirmed, a second round of voting will be necessary, which would take place on April 2nd, since to win in the first round a candidate needs at least 40% of the vote and a minimum difference of 10 points over the second-place candidate. Some problems and delays in the vote count have raised suspicions of fraud among the opposition. If a second round is ultimately necessary, Lasso has a chance of winning, since the third presidential candidate, Cynthia Viteri (Christian Socialist Party), has declared her support for him.
