El European Investment Bank (EIB) has provided significant financial support to Ukraine through a disbursement of 55 millones de euros, part of the country's Recovery Program. This initiative focuses on restoring vital social infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, social housing and critical systems such as heating and water. The funds are intended to benefit several Ukrainian regions, including Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk and Kyiv, among others.
Several major subprojects under this program were completed in 2024. These include a sewer pressure collector in Zhmerynka, Vinnytsia Oblast, completed on December 25. This project will significantly improve sanitation for more than 33.000 residents, including internally displaced persons, ensuring reliable transportation for the next fifty years.
This support will allow the implementation of 151 subprojects focused on schools, hospitals and essential systems, highlighting the continued commitment to the country's recovery.
EIB Vice-President, Teresa Czerwińska, said: “Together with our European partners, we remain firmly committed to Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction”. For his part, Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner, reaffirmed: “A strong political and financial commitment to Ukraine is essential in the face of current adversities”.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba emphasized, “European support is crucial to restore essential public services that will improve quality of life” while Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko added: “We deeply appreciate this help that strengthens our economy and social well-being”.
Finally, Jaco Cilliers from UNDP projection: “We are working with the Ukrainian government to ensure resilient infrastructure that meets the real needs of the people”.
This joint effort between the EIB and its European partners underlines an unwavering commitment to stability and sustainable development in Ukraine in the face of current challenges.
