The Higher Council for Artistic Education holds its first meeting

New State advisory body established in the Organic Law of Education

The Minister of Education and Science, Mercedes Cabrera, today presided over the inaugural meeting of the Higher Council for Artistic Education, the new state advisory body established by the Organic Law on Education, which will play a significant role in defining the basic structure and content of the various higher artistic education programs."Today is an important day because never before has such a strong boost been given to artistic education in this country," the Minister stated.

«"We want the different sectors of the world of arts education to participate in our decisions, but we also want them to advise us, to help us to articulate quality teaching, which attracts an ever-increasing number of students and occupies the social space that arts education deserves," the Minister explained to the 70 members of the Council.

The Council includes representatives from the Administrations, teachers, higher education centers for different artistic disciplines and students, as well as 10 figures of recognized prestige: Maria José Alonso López, Manuel Estrada Pérez, Isidro Ferrer Soria, Jordi Font i Cardona, Antón García Abril, Maria Dolores Gómez De Ávila, Tamara Rojo Díez, Cristina Rota Fernández, Jordi Savall i Bernadet and Mauricio Sotelo.

Among the functions of the Higher Council for Artistic Education is the development of proposals related to the teaching, research, dissemination, and social impact of artistic education, as well as the promotion of professionals in the field. Furthermore, it will be required to issue reports on the regulations that define the structure and core content of the various higher artistic education programs, their evaluation, and the conditions for offering postgraduate studies at higher artistic education institutions. It will also produce an annual report on the state and status of artistic education.
