The Japanese ambassador to Spain highlights the importance of the JTI factory in Tenerife

The Japanese ambassador to Spain, Takahiro Nakamae, together with the Japanese consul in the Canary Islands, Shinji Yamada, visited the factory of Japan Tobacco International (JTI) in Tenerife, which has recently been modernised and in which the company has invested approximately 75 million euros over the last decade.

The plant director, Natalia Khomenko, highlighted the importance of technology and local talent in the success of the centre, indicating that “the combined strength of technology, investments and local human talent has made it possible for the Tenerife production centre to gain prominence compared to the other 37 factories that JTI owns worldwide.”

JTI employs more than 330 people in the Canary Islands and accounts for more than half of the cigarette production in the archipelago.

During the visit, the Japanese authorities toured the new offices and the recently installed high-speed production lines. Ahmad Ismail, general manager of JTI in the Canary Islands, highlighted the company's commitment to the region: “The JTI factory in Tenerife is not only a production centre, but a symbol of our commitment to the Canary Islands. Every investment we make is a reflection of our commitment to the region and to the quality of our products.”

The JTI plant in Tenerife not only supplies the local market, but 60% of its production is destined for export, consolidating the Canary Islands as a key point in the global tobacco market.
