The Spanish Government is strengthening financial support for companies affected by US tariffs.

 

The main objective is to offer an agile response to the needs of financing, risk coverage and support to the investment of Spanish companies with international operations, particularly those that have been affected by the current scenario tariff.

 

The measures include a significant expansion of capacities and funds available in key instruments such as the Fund for the Internationalization of Companies (FIEM), Fund for Investments Abroad (FIEX), Fund for SMEs (FONPYME) through COFIDES, the Spanish Export Credit Insurance Company (CESCE) and the Official Credit Institute (ICO).

 

Details of the Reinforced Instruments:

 

  • Direct Financing (FIEM): The annual limit is increased to 700 millones de euros, including new non-reimbursable lines for feasibility studies, consultancies and pilot projects.

  • Investment Support (FIEX and FONPYME – COFIDES): These funds will provide financing for the creation of subsidiaries, acquisition of companies, expansion of plants or public-private partnership (PPP) schemes, with amounts ranging from 75.000 euros and 60 million euros.

  • Risk Coverage (CESCE): The annual limit for insurance on behalf of the State is raised to 15.000 millones de euros, having a specific reserve of 2.000 billion euros reserved for companies directly affected by tariffs.

  • ICO Guarantee Line: A line of has been enabled 5.000 millones de euros, of which a first phase of 1.000 billion euros is already activeThis line is intended to finance liquidity or business conversion projects.

  • ICO International Lines: Companies will continue to have access to the ICO's familiar products to finance foreign operations, both for investment and export, channeled through various banking institutions.

 

Who can benefit?

 

Companies eligible for these grants include those with a direct exposure to the United States (i.e., more than 5% of its exports or imports) as those with indirect exposureThe latter includes companies that are part of value chains linked to the US, either as suppliers to exporting companies or because they belong to sectors considered particularly exposed to tariffs.
