The Spanish government and the autonomous communities join forces to mitigate the impact of US tariffs.

 

The meeting brought together representatives of all the Autonomous Communities, as well as the main trade union organizations (CC.OO. and UGT) and business (CEOE and Chamber of Commerce of Spain), demonstrating the shared concern about the possible repercussions of US trade policy on the Spanish economy and business community.

 

The Council's central agenda focused on analyzing in detail the impact of the new US customs tariffs, with special attention to the commercial exposure of each Spanish region. Updated data broken down by sector were presented, revealing significant heterogeneity in the vulnerability of the different Autonomous CommunitiesWhile the overall impact at the national level is initially considered "relatively low", the figures showed significant disparities, underscoring the need for a coordinated strategy adapted to the particularities of each territory.

 

During the session, Minister Cuerpo emphasized the fundamental premise of maintaining fluid and constant communication between the central government and the autonomous communities. "It is crucial that we have all the updated information on the real impact on our businesses so that we can act as quickly as possible," the minister told the media after the meeting. This commitment to transparency and collaboration resulted in the agreement to establish monthly follow-up meetings with the Autonomous Communities, a mechanism that will allow the evolution of the situation to be assessed and response measures to be adjusted continuously.

 

In addition to these regular meetings at the ministerial level, the creation of weekly monitoring groups at the Directorate General level was announced. This measure seeks to ensure a constant flow of information and rapid analysis of any emerging situation that may affect the Spanish companies with commercial interests in the United StatesAgility in identifying problems and formulating solutions are fundamental pillars of the government's strategy.

 

A central element of the coordinated response will be the promotion of the internationalization of Spanish companies, led by the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX).

 

In this context, a specific working group will be created whose main mission will be to promoting market diversification and the search for new business opportunities for the affected companies. Within this group, the "ICEX Relaunch Plan" will be presented soon, an initiative that will incorporate the contributions and specific needs raised by the Autonomous Communities.

 

The Minister of the Body highlighted the importance of this plan as a key tool for strengthen the international presence of Spanish companies and reduce its dependence on a single market. It also announced the launch of various outreach, information, and advisory initiatives aimed at providing up-to-date information and addressing any questions or needs that may arise within the business community.

 

In his statements to the press, Minister Cuerpo reiterated the Government's commitment to supporting the business sector: "We will be monitoring all companies and providing personalized follow-up so that we can help them with whatever they need." This statement underscores the intention to offer individualized support to those companies most directly affected by the US tariffs.

 

Finally, the minister recalled the importance of "Commercial Response and Relaunch Plan", previously presented by his department. "This plan constitutes a fundamental safety net to facilitate liquidity for companies that need it, adapt their production capacity and boost their international presence," stated Cuerpo, highlighting the financial and internationalization support tools that the Government is making available to companies in this context of commercial uncertainty.

 

The meeting of the Interterritorial Council on Internationalization concluded with a message of collaboration and determination.
