The CAF Group has closed two new bus supply contracts for Aschaffenburg (Germany) and Sardinia (Italy) which include the supply of hydrogen and hybrid vehicles respectively, the combined amount of both exceeds 40 million euros.
First order for articulated hydrogen buses
Solaris has been selected by the German operator Stadtwerke Aschaffenburg Verkehrs GmbH to supply 12 hydrogen buses. Specifically, the order consists of 10 twelve-meter units and 2 eighteen-meter units, destined to begin operating in 2024 in the German city of Aschaffenburg , in northern Bavaria . This marks Solaris' first order for 18-meter articulated hydrogen buses, a model launched by the company last fall.
Hydrogen buses are an essential part of the CAF Group's zero-emission mobility offering and have become an attractive option for cities aiming for a more sustainable public transport system. To date, Solaris has secured contracts for over 200 of these vehicles for cities in countries such as Italy, Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands , positioning itself as the number one company in this segment in Europe in 2022.
Solaris will supply 100 hybrid buses for Sardinia
On the other hand, Solaris has finalized an agreement to deliver 100 Urbino 12 hybrid buses to the Italian city of Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. The contract is part of a framework agreement signed in 2021 with Consip, a public limited company owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) . Under this agreement, local public transport companies could either arrange for the direct supply of vehicles or participate in a restricted tender with suppliers selected under the agreement. In this case, ARST SpA, Sardinia's largest public transport company, has placed an order with Solaris for 100 hybrid buses, with delivery scheduled for 2024.
The chosen model, the Urbino 12 hybrid , will be equipped with the most advanced solutions for passenger comfort, and will feature a new generation hybrid propulsion system consisting of a 250 kW electric traction motor and a 150 kW Euro 6 internal combustion engine, which will allow for significant savings in fuel consumption, as well as a reduction in polluting emissions into the atmosphere.
It is worth noting that there are currently more than 1.500 Solaris vehicles on Italian roads , almost a third of which are zero-emission electric units. This confirms Solaris as one of the European leaders in the sale and production of low- and zero-emission buses, with Italy also becoming a key market in the transition to green mobility.
