The company also announced an agreement with its partner Grupo Planeta to boost the advertising business of LaNetro.com's local guides.
The Board of Directors of Lanetro Zed, a Spanish multinational content company for mobile devices and the Internet, has decided to change the group's name to Zed Worldwide, and will submit the decision to the shareholders' meeting for approval, according to company sources.
The company also announced an agreement with its partner Grupo Planeta to boost advertising business for LaNetro.com's local guides.
Lanetro Zed states in a press release that the name change is due to a strategic decision, since LaNetro is a well-known brand in Spain but not outside of Spain, and the multinational's main business focus is on mobile content, closely associated with the Zed brand.
The company will operate under the Zed brand, which is the one it uses in almost all of the 37 countries in which the group operates.
The company also announced today the agreement reached with its partner Grupo Planeta to launch a joint venture with the aim of boosting the local guides business of LaNetro.com.
Grupo Planeta acquired a stake in Zed in December 2006, with 23% of the capital, which remains mostly in the hands of the Pérez family.
In the press release, the group states that the agreement represents a very important step towards consolidating its position in the local online advertising market.
It highlights the importance of LaNetro.com to the company since it was the origin of the group in 1996 and was the first Internet portal in Spain that offered leisure information and local services.
