It will collaborate with Ezagutza Gunea with the aim of testing a series of methodologies in the field of innovation for SMEs in the Urola Medio region.
On October 24, at the headquarters of Orkestra, the Basque Institute of Competitiveness, on the San Sebastián campus of the University of Deusto, the meeting that begins the collaboration process of this Institute with Ezagutza Gunea, Forum for the management of training and knowledge of the Urola Medio, took place.
This process aims to test a series of methodologies that the Institute is developing in the field of innovation for SMEs. At this first meeting, the Institute's delegation was headed by Alejandro Ruelas Gossi, General Director of Orkestra (Basque Institute of Competitiveness), and Ezagutza Gunea's by Asier Aranbarri, Mayor of Azkoitia.
Through this agreement, Orkestra will test the validity of its methodologies for identifying the potential of Azkoitia and Azpeitia to improve the rate at which their companies adopt innovation policies. Subsequently, an action plan will be defined so that Ezagutza Gunea can generate a multiplier effect for these policies. Once the designed tools have been tested, Orkestra will implement a dissemination process to foster innovation in other local areas.
Ezagutza Gunea was established in June 2002, its founders being: Slabmunicipalities of Azkoitia and Azpeitia, la Iraurgi Lantzen regional development agency, seven ecompanies of the Middle Urola and tall the Schools in the aforementioned municipalities. It collaborates in the development of the Urola Medio region. to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of companies and training and research centers through effective knowledge management in the region.
Faced with the challenges of the Basque Country's transition from a cost-based economy to an ideas-based economy, the Institute has adopted a vision it has termed "glocal." Orkestra collaborates with a network of the world's leading business schools, such as Harvard, INSEAD, and CEIBS (Shanghai), as well as with globally renowned strategy consultancies like BCG, to bring state-of-the-art knowledge on innovation and competitiveness to the Basque Country, both at the company level and at the level of territorial strategy. It is convinced that the best local strategies are those that are first and foremost profoundly global.
In this context, one of the aspects the Institute intends to explore further is the potential of territorial integration processes to improve the efficiency of innovation policies. This work is based on the hypothesis that actions at the regional/municipal level can generate a multiplier effect on innovation policies defined at other levels, such as the Provincial Councils or the Basque Government. This vision has already materialized with the creation of the Innovanet Network, comprised of the Basque Government, the Provincial Councils of Álava, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa, Confebask, Eusko Ganberak, Spri, and Garapen. Orkestra will develop strategies to strengthen these initiatives.
