The Master in Winery Management and Management of the Business School of the Chamber of Valladolid reaches its 18th edition this year

El Master in Warehouse Management and Management from the Business School from the Chamber of Valladolid reaches its 18th edition this year, a coming of age for cutting-edge training in a key sector of Castilla y León and Spain and that will be reinforced this year with the academic direction of Enrique Valero, CEO of Abadía Retuerta, through a complete program with top-level teaching staff that will combine the traditional subjects of the sector with the new essential disciplines to continue growing in a global business, from sustainability to digitalization, wine big data, ecommerce, new trends marketing and communication or R&D&I.

 

“Training is key for a top-level sector in Castilla y León such as wine to continue growing, addressing new disciplines and business areas with 360º training given by some of the best professionals in each subject,” said Valero, who added that “training is key so that professionals in the sector can continue to grow and develop professionally in a key sector for our land, achieving security and knowledge so that there is no barrier in their present and future professional development, with professionals who add to a great training, the passion and love for what they do.”

 

The master's degree, which will start in October of this same year, will have renowned teachers at a national and international level such as Peter Ballesteros, Agronomist engineer, first Master of Wine in Spain and one of the greatest wine experts; Charlotte Hey, executive director of International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), a world leader in reducing emissions within the wine sector; Pablo Álvarez, CEO of the Tempos Vega Sicilia group; Maria del Yerro, president of Grandes Pagos de España and co-founder of Alonso del Yerro; or Armando Guerra, director of Barbadillo's Alta Gama and soul of the 'Taberna der Guerrita', one of the people who has contributed the most in recent years to the dissemination of the culture of Marco de Jerez wines.

 

The master's degree will combine traditional training with master classes taught by leading experts in each subject, which will allow global training in all areas to delve into current and future trends and will contribute to Castilla y León and its wineries being able to continue leading the way. wine sector at the national level through the promotion of talent and training.

For its part, Enrique Valero assumes the academic direction of the Master in Warehouse Management and Management to develop a training program that seeks to “transform the sector's talent into highly competitive profiles in management, internationalization, innovation and tourism,” said the CEO of Abadía Retuerta, an international benchmark for its wines and its hotel. “This collaboration will serve as a lever of change to enhance the value of the wine sector of Castilla y León through knowledge in sustainability, digitalization or R&D&I,” added Valero.

 

To Víctor Caramanzana, president of the Chamber of Valladolid, this alliance “turns the master's degree into a benchmark in the sector, helping its professionals, both current and future, stay updated with market changes, allowing the economic growth of viticulture, guaranteeing its increase in competitiveness and improving employability.”

 

El CEO of Abadía Retuerta highlighted the vision that the Business School of the Chamber of Valladolid to promote this Master's degree 17 years ago and highlighted the role of the previous academic directorates in this training, both by the managing director of Four Stripes, Vicente Orihuela, As in Pedro Ruiz, CEO of Alma Carraovejas, to professionalize the wine sector of Castilla y León through high-level training.

 

The wine sector is one of the pillars of the economy of Castilla y León, with a turnover of more than one billion and 19.000 direct jobs -13.000 winegrowers-. The Community has 750 wineries and 82.000 hectares of vineyards, of which more than 90% are covered by one of the 16 Protected Designations of Origin of Castilla y León (the DOPs Abadía Retuerta; Arlanza, Arribes; Bierzo; Cebreros; Cigales; Dehesa Peñalba; León; Ribera del Duero; Sierra de Salamanca; Tierra del Vino de Zamora; Valles de Benavente;

 

The export of wine from Castilla y León reached 2022 million euros in 236, 9% more than the previous year and 33% more than five years ago. Nearly 8% of the Community's total agri-food exports correspond to quality wines, with a product that serves as an ambassador for other agri-food productions to reach international markets. Castilla y León represents 7,8% of Spanish wine sales abroad, with Switzerland, USA, Germany and Mexico as main destinations for wine exports.
