The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jose Manuel Albares, has expressed his desire to definitively strengthen the links between the European Union (EU) and Latin America. During the opening session of the fifteenth Eurolat Plenary Session, Albares has advocated for a comprehensive partnership between both regions to address future challenges.

 

Eurolat is a forum made up of 150 parliamentarians from Europe and Latin America, with 75 representatives from each region. At this meeting held in Madrid, topics such as security, crime, education, women and human rights have been discussed.

 

 

The European co-president of EuroLat, Javi López, has highlighted the importance of promoting trade agreements between both regions and institutionalizing relations

 

Albares' main objective is to consolidate a positive agenda and establish a structured dialogue between the EU and Latin America. Furthermore, he has highlighted that the Spanish Presidency of the EU It has the opportunity to also become the presidency of Latin America in Europe.

 

Both the president of Congress, Meritxell Batet, as the president of the Senate, Ander Gil, have highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between both sides of the Ocean. They have stressed the need to strengthen democratic institutions and work together to strengthen democratic values.

 

The European co-president of EuroLat also participated in the session, Javi lopez, who has held the Assembly and the EU-CELAC Summit as spaces for meeting and dialogue. He has highlighted the importance of promoting trade agreements between both regions and institutionalizing relations.

 

For his part, the Latin American co-president of EuroLat, Oscar Darío Pérez, has requested greater bi-regional cooperation in health, education and human mobility. It has also urged to protect the rights of migrants in both regions and promote their access to Social Security and fair employment opportunities free of discrimination.
