The minister's agenda includes presiding over the events of the Spanish Day at the Osaka World Expo, a key event to project the image of Spain en Asia.
During his stay, Hereu will meet with senior Japanese officials, including the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Hiromasa Nakano, to discuss the growth of the Japanese tourism market in Spain. This market, which has shown a notable increase in the number of travelers and tourism spending in 2024, is a priority for Spain, aligning with the country's sustainable tourism strategy.
En Tokyo, the minister will meet with airline executives All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Air Lines (JAL), as well as representatives of Spanish and Japanese companies. The goal is to strengthen cooperation in tourism and industrial investment, taking advantage of the recent reestablishment of direct flights between the two countries.
“Spain’s presence at Expo Osaka is an opportunity to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation with Japan, and to bolster our image in Asia,” declared Minister Hereu. The Spanish pavilion at the Expo, under the slogan The Kuroshio Current, highlights Spain's innovation, creativity and sustainability.
The minister also highlighted the growth of Spanish exports to Japan, which have doubled since 2010, making Japan the second-largest destination for Spanish products in Asia, after China.
