Northern Ireland Infrastructure Minister, John O'Dowd, inaugurated the interchange Belfast Grand Central Station, the largest transport hub on the island of Ireland, with capacity for 20 million passengers per year. Developed by Sacyr and Farrans In less than two years, this infrastructure marks a milestone in the improvement of public transport in the region.
During the event, O'Dowd highlighted the impact this new station will have on sustainable mobility and climate commitments: "We are marking a new era for public transport here in Belfast and across Northern Ireland. This station is iconic and historic and underscores our commitment to decarbonizing transport."
The station, which has already started its bus service, has 16 stops, which will increase to 26 in the future, and will double its railway platforms, from four to eight. In addition, active transport will be prioritised with the installation of more than 200 bicycle spaces and other facilities for users.
