The Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao hosts the Business Global Conference.

Disney, Volvo, Travel Club or Silverspace, and speakers such as Luis Rojas Marcos, Jeff Sampler, Luis María Huete or Eduardo Anitua

Under the slogan "Who innovates and how," the BGC Congress, to be held at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao on October 24 and 25, picks up where previous events left off. Innovation, the event's central theme, will be the focus of the presentations and experiences shared by some twenty national and international experts. The event is organized by the Society for the Promotion and Industrial Restructuring (SPRI), the Spanish Association of Electronics, Information Technology and Telecommunications Companies (AETIC), and the Basque Country Telecommunications Cluster Association (GAIA).

Jeff Sampler, innovation expert and professor at Oxford University; Luis María Huete, professor at EISE and Harvard Business School, and author of Illusion and benefits, Clienting, Services and benefits or Build your dreamPedro Luis Uriarte, president of the Basque Innovation Agency; and Luis Rojas Marcos, professor of Psychiatry at New York University and member of the New York Academy of Medicine, are some of the speakers who will be present at the 6th edition of the Business Global Conference (BGC).

Innovation will be addressed from two perspectives, both within the company and in the competitive environment: Who innovates within the company? How do they do it? Is it a single person who leads innovation? Should it be a group, or does it depend on the entire organization? Which companies are the most innovative? And how are they able to transform innovation into products and services? These and other questions will be answered through talks and professional experiences offered by companies such as Disney, Volvo, Travel Club, Azti, Ibermática, Fatronik, Silverspace Animations 3D, and Ikusi, all of which will be present at the event.

A new knowledge exchange block on Social Networks and Web 2.0 will also be opened; representing the evolution of traditional applications towards web applications focused on the end user. José Antonio del Moral, CEO of Alianzo; Gregor Gimmy of Sclipo and Dominique Cerri of Properazzi will contribute their experiences and knowledge in this area.

Plenary Sessions

Jeff Sampler will deliver the opening plenary session. This innovation expert is a professor at Oxford University and author of, among other works, Sand to Silicon. Sampler will focus his presentation on the "Innovation in a technologically enabled world," where he will address the fundamentals of innovation. "These are changing in a world where technology provides the foundation for many new business opportunities. Understanding these new technologies from competitors will provide a basis for companies to explore new opportunities."

Luis Rojas Marcos will be responsible for closing the Congress. Through his presentation, "Innovation and Stress," Rojas Marcos will delve into technological innovations and the internet, since "They are essential ingredients in the business world and, therefore, affect the daily lives of millions of people."

Pedro Luis Uriarte, president of the Basque Innovation Agency, will be another of the guests. Uriarte will focus on The Basque economy faces a significant challenge in the face of the intense global process that is producing such decisive changes in markets, customers, and the competitive landscape for all companies. To ensure an appropriate response from businesses to this situation, the Basque Innovation Agency has been created, which will play a crucial role in the success of the Second Great Basque Economic Transformation that is now underway.

The "+i" Innovation Congress

According to data from Eustat, the Basque Country ranked in the middle of the EU countries in 2006 in the European Innovation Index. This index measures the degree to which countries' economies have the capacity and develop innovation activities. Out of the 27 member states, it ranked 13th, with a score of 0,35 (out of 1), while the EU average was estimated at 0,45. Investing in innovation is the only way to stand out in a changing and complex world, where competing on cost or productivity is no longer enough.

The Basque Country aims to reach the top positions in that ranking within three years. To achieve this, andThe Science, Technology and Innovation Plan, which develops the strategic bases and lines of action to position the Basque Autonomous Community as the benchmark for innovation in Europe in the coming years, plans to mobilize 6.714 million euros until 2010, of which the Basque Government will contribute more than 2.000 million.

Under this umbrella, the 6th BGC Congress continues its commitment to practical knowledge in innovation, focusing on how organizations and societies should incorporate innovation as a cornerstone of their daily operations. This clear strategic focus has driven the evolution of the Congress logo, which this year incorporates the "+i" symbol for innovation.

The Business Global Conference, a meeting point and forum for exchanging experiences, will focus on practical cases of innovation with results: transforming businesses, starting from scratch, entering new markets or products, new segments, strengthening market presence…; how to turn innovation into a competitive advantage; and when innovation is unseen but noticeable…
