At the Board of Trustees meeting, several projects that CENATIC is already working on were analyzed. In addition to the project to create comprehensive, open-source management software for small and medium-sized NGOs, the trustees studied initiatives that will directly benefit citizens. Among these, a project to ensure that the maximum number of open-source hardware and software solutions can use the electronic national identity card (DNIe) stands out.
In the business sector, CENATIC is exploring the creation of an open-source viewer for electronic invoices, which will facilitate interactions between numerous companies using open-source software and the public administration. Regarding companies in the ICT sector using open-source software, CENATIC will promote the use of open standards that enable the broader development of this sector.
In addition, CENATIC is currently evaluating a series of projects to facilitate access to the latest technologies for people with disabilities, while also collaborating on European R&D projects for the creation of new free services and platforms.
Foss Bridge: Internationalization of SMEs
Furthermore, CENATIC has joined the Foss Bridge project, a business collaboration initiative using open-source software, becoming the Spanish international representative for this project. Through this initiative, it will contribute to the internationalization of Spanish SMEs by providing training and expertise in specific open-source applications and services to companies in Southeast Asia. The project will also foster the creation of business partnerships between software representatives from Asia and Spain to promote mutual business growth and boost regional and international networking.
The Foss Bridge initiative is beginning a process to identify Spanish, French, German, and Southeast Asian companies to develop joint projects. The main requirement to access this program is to be a Spanish company in the ICT sector interested in expanding its open-source software business into the growing Asian market. With all these projects, CENATIC seeks to bring citizens and companies closer to the benefits of using open source software technologies, guaranteeing equal options in the use of these platforms with respect to proprietary software.
Boosting open source software
CENATIC was established on November 20, 2006 with the mission of promoting the use of open source technologies for the benefit of society in areas such as business, research, and electronic administration, among others, as well as trying to foster the establishment of common standards in the use of open technologies.
CENATIC's objectives focus on contributing to the proper valuation and perception of open source software, disseminating the opportunities that open technologies provide in the networked society, and channeling open source initiatives for the development of innovative projects, based on collaboration between public and private institutions.
