The Port of Algeciras Bay estimates traffic of 50 million tons by the end of 2001.

Spain's leading port by tonnage, with throughput increasing by 31% year-on-year, overall cargo throughput has reached 10.919.042 tons so far this year.
The Port of Algeciras Bay has handled more than one million TEUs (standardized 20-foot or 6-meter containers) during the first six months of 2001. This figure represents an 11.79% increase compared to the same period of the previous year, confirming the excellent performance of the facilities located in the Bay of Algeciras.
With these results, the total traffic is 20.678.310 tons, a figure that confirms that if the current growth rate is maintained, the Port of Algeciras Bay will exceed 50 million tons before the end of the year.
