The Port of Algeciras Bay recorded its highest container traffic in history in June. A total of 240.377 TEUs (6-meter containers) passed through the Juan Carlos I Wharf last month, compared to 196.012 TEUs in the same month of the previous year. This figure represents a growth of over 22%, driven primarily by increases in international traffic (+30,8%), imports (+42,6%), and exports (+12,2%).
With the relentless activity throughout this month, the first half of the year concludes with outstanding results, exceeding the expectations set for 2003. Thus, container traffic accumulated in the first six months of the year has already reached 1.258.518 TEUs (+18,2%), a growth rate that doubles the average for the National Port System. The increase in container traffic is clearly reflected in the total traffic of the Port of Algeciras Bay, which up to June 30th has accumulated 29.825.806 tons (+11,25%); while the year-on-year figure (from June 2002 to June 2003) is now approaching 60 million tons, specifically 59.977.816 tons.
