El Port of Algeciras concludes on Friday, May 18, a new Trade Mission to Costa Rica, main commercial partner for reefer traffic, organized by the Port Authority (APBA) with the support of the Port Community and the Chamber of Commerce. In addition to presentations on the logistics, cold and customs offer, meetings have been held with Costa Rican companies, associations of shipper and international logistics agencies and with the different chambers. The new Minister of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica participated in the meetings, Manuel Tovar, who has presented the new export strategy of the Caribbean country, as well as the management team of the Promoter of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica (PROCOMER).
The delegation from the Port of Algeciras has also dedicated several days to visiting the pineapple, banana, tubers and plants production fields from where hundreds of containers leave every week to supply Europe the Port of Moin, connected directly by the service MedCaribe of the shipping companies CMA-CGM and Marfret, with a transit time with Algeciras of only 12 days. The Algeciras delegation has been made up of representatives from the Commercial Department of the APBA, by companies Algetransit, Comercio Exterior Souto, De Castro Legal Office, ECS360, Logistika360, Partida Logistics, Total Logistic Services and UCC Logistics.
It was in 2015 when commercial relations were established between Port Authority of Algeciras y PROCOMER, the import of refrigerated merchandise has increased more than 500% with the Central American country, becoming a gateway to the Southern Europe Algeciras 80% of the Costa Rican pineapple that is imported into Spain arrives and that previously reached the Peninsula from other European docks.
