The Port of Algeciras has started the year with a growth of 3,3% in the movement of goods, reaching a total of 9 million tons in January.

This positive balance is mainly due to the 17,2% increase in liquid bulk, with 2,8 million tons moved in the terminals of Cepsa, Evos and Exolum.
One of the most relevant data of the month is the notable growth in the supply of fuel to ships, which has experienced a general increase of 20%. This increase shoots up to 37% if only anchoring operations are considered, a trend that is explained by the new maritime routes that shipping companies are adopting to avoid the Red Sea. In this way, almost half of the more than 600 ships that refueled in the Port of Algeciras in January did so at anchor.
The Strait traffic They have also experienced positive growth in January, with a 14,4% increase in the number of passengers (almost 361.000) and a 21,4% increase in passenger vehicle traffic (81.000). Ro-ro traffic has grown by 8,6%, with 43.453 trucks, of which 40.779 opted for the line Algeciras-Tangier Med.
Regarding container traffic, it has remained at similar levels to last year, with 372.023 teus moved in the terminals
The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBAThe agency is analyzing in detail the resolution of February 13th from the Directorate General for Environmental Quality and Assessment, which formulates the strategic environmental statement for the "Port of Algeciras Bay Infrastructure Master Plan." This statement, the processing of which began in 2015, establishes the guidelines and conditions that will inform the definition of the final project to be implemented, with the aim of minimizing potential environmental impacts.
