The Port of Bilbao leads logistics innovation at Empack and Logistics & Automation Bilbao 2024

 

El Port of Bilbao actively participates with a stand (2D11) and the organization of two round tables focused on artificial intelligence and waste recovery in the logistics sector.

 

This key event in the logistics sector has become an essential meeting point for professionals seeking the latest trends and solutions in packaging, intralogistics and transport.

 

La Port Authority of Bilbao and UniportBilbao They have deployed an interactive stand (2D11) in the BEC, where they welcome visitors and present the latest developments and services at the port. They have also organised two round tables that address crucial issues for the future of logistics.

 

The first round table, entitled «AI applied to freight transportThe event, held on Wednesday the 26th at 12:15 pm, was moderated by Nuria Lacaci, Secretary General of the Spanish Shippers Association. Participants shared their perspectives on the impact and applications of artificial intelligence in the sector.

 

Carlos Gallo, Country Manager for Spain at TRANSFOLLOW, highlighted: "AI is revolutionizing document visibility, enabling more efficient and accurate management of the flow of goods."

 

For its part, Leticia Alvarez, Director of Strategic Accounts: Energy, Utilities and Logistics at GOOGLE CLOUD IBERIA, explained: "Google AI offers powerful tools to optimize processes such as OCR and route planning, significantly improving logistics efficiency."

 

Paco Iranzo, Director of Operations at MOJITO 360, shared his experience: "Supply chain control has been greatly strengthened with AI, enabling real-time traceability and management."

 

Rodrigo Martin, Director of Logistics and Transportation at FIELDEAS, concluded: "AI allows us to transform data into strategic decisions, effectively optimizing logistics and yard management."

 

The second round table, "Waste Valorization for the Logistics Sector in the New Regulatory Framework," began at 13:00 p.m., moderated by Natividad Rodríguez, director of UniportBilbao. The experts discussed the importance of sustainability and waste management in the logistics sector.

 

In his participation, Arancha Bengoechea, Co-director of the Public and Regulatory Law area at Andersen, commented: "The new legislation on packaging and waste, such as Royal Decree 1055/2022 and Regulation (EU) 2025/40, establishes a clear regulatory framework that promotes the recovery of waste in the logistics sector."

 

Iagoba Manzano, Business Development Director at Contenor, and Izaro de la PeñaThe head of the environment at Contenor presented their solutions: "At Contenor, we are committed to waste valorization, offering innovative solutions for the logistics sector."

 

In addition to the round tables, professionals attending the fair, after registering at the port stand, had the opportunity to take a guided tour of Mercabilbao, the largest distribution center for perishable foods in the north of the Iberian Peninsula.
