The city of Bilbao has become the epicenter of the European energy debate thanks to the celebration of Enlit Europe 2025, one of the most important gatherings in the sector. El President of the Port Authority of Bilbao, Iván JiménezHe was one of the protagonists of the event, participating in the EU Project Talk – Live Podcast entitled “Energy & European Ports”This session, moderated by Areti Ntaradimou (Brussels Editor and Head of European Projects at Enlit Europe), focused on analyzing the fundamental role that EU ports are playing in the path towards the decarbonization of maritime transport and the deployment of sustainable infrastructures.
During his participation, Jiménez highlighted the strategic projects which is driving the Basque port. Among them, he highlighted the progress in the electrification of its docks, the implementation of renewable generation, the efforts in digitalization and the search for energy self-sufficiencyHe also highlighted the progress made on major initiatives, such as the hydrogen hub and other ongoing European projects.

Jiménez emphasized the urgent need that the European Union define support and recognition mechanisms for those ports that have already achieved the demanding electrification targets.
