The Port of Cartagena begins 2025 with a 1,85% increase in port traffic

The sector liquid bulk has experienced a significant upturn, with an increase of 16,28% and a total of 2,5 million tons moved. This growth has been driven mainly by the increased discharge of natural gas, which has experienced a spectacular increase of 268%, reaching 266.000 tons, and oil, which has grown by 4,82% with 1,4 million tons.

 

In contrast, solid bulks have seen a 43,61% drop, with a total of 562.963 tonnes. Within this group, cereals have been the most voluminous commodity, with 206.802 tonnes, although it has experienced a decrease of 61,5%. Other solid bulks such as coal, coke and feed have also registered decreases, while cement and clinker have increased their movement.

 

La general merchandise has maintained the upward trend of the last fiscal year, with a growth of 43,39% and a total of 81.779 tonnes. Chemical products have positioned themselves as the most voluminous commodity and the one that has grown the most in percentage terms.

 

The year has also seen a 67,63% increase in supplies, reaching 20.010 tonnes. Likewise, the amount of goods transported in containers has experienced a 44,81% increase in both tonnes (56.591) and TEUs (4.203), driven mainly by chemical and agri-food products.

 

Despite these positive results, port authorities have urged caution, pointing out that it is necessary to wait for the evolution of the coming months to evaluate the performance of the year as a whole, since the results of a single month are not significant.
