Final basic magnitudes for the month of February

Last February, 96.000 fewer containers were handled than in February 2016 due to the drop in productivity at terminals as a result of the stevedoring conflict.

Valenciaport The month of February ended with a total traffic of 11.114.488 tons, a figure that represents a decrease of 0,65% compared to the same period of the previous year.

 

Considering the final closing of the second month of the year, this decline is mainly based on the fall in the containerized general merchandise which, with 8.185.832 tons, decreased by 4,60%; and of the solid bulk which, with 314.688 tons, decreased by 1,34%.

 

On the contrary, during the first two months of the year, positive figures were recorded by liquid bulk and non-containerized general merchandise. Specifically, the liquid bulk rose by 52,52% to a total of 782.423 tons while the non-containerized general merchandise experienced an increase of 3,50%, with a total of 1.761.892 tons handled. Likewise, vehicle traffic grew by 1,11% in this period. In total, until the month of February, the ports of Valencia y Sagunto They have handled 125.420 units.

 

As regards passengers, according to the final traffic data for the month of February, in the accumulated total for the first two months of the year, they landed in Valencia a total of 76.138 people. This figure represents a growth of 30,53% compared to the same period last year. Of these, 65.393 people used regular line services (+44,63%) and 10.745 arrived in Valencia on board a tourist cruise (-18,09%).

Container traffic

 

As regards container traffic, the final traffic data for the Port Authority of Valencia They noted a 7,98% drop, from 755.748 TEUs handled in 2016 to 695.440 TEUs handled this year.

 

This decline is more pronounced if we focus on the data exclusively for February, a month that has been characterized by low productivity as a result of the stevedoring conflict, which has caused the diversion of ship calls and cargo from the port of Valencia to other Spanish ports and neighboring countries, as recognized by various reports from State Ports, ANESCO, SEVASA and CEV, in addition to the provisional figures for the end of the month released a few days ago. Specifically, during the month of February, Valenciaport handled 303.453 TEUs, a figure that represents a decrease of 24,05% and a loss of more than 96.000 TEUs compared to the same month of the previous year.

 

The traffics most affected by this drop in productivity have been: containers empty vessels, which, with 56.459 TEU, have experienced a 47% decrease and a drop of more than 50.000 TEU. As regards the traffic of full containers, the import-export, with a decrease of 3,62%, has been less affected than traffic, which, with 132.310 TEU, decreased by 23,98% and lost around 42.000 TEU. Specifically, container exports have decreased by 2,34% to 66.291 TEU (around 1.600 TEU less); while the import has decreased by 5,33% to 48.393 TEU, with a drop of more than 2.700 TEU.
