The soft fruit sector celebrates solid growth and announces its 10th International Congress in Huelva

 

El Spanish red fruit sector continues its growth path with a notable increase in its figures exporting during the year 2024. According to data from the Customs and Excise Department processed by FEPEX, foreign sales reached 411.879 tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 6%, while the value of these exports amounted to 1.912 billion euros, 12% more than in the previous year.

 

This positive outlook will serve as a backdrop for the celebration of the tenth edition of the International Congress of Red Fruits, a key event for the sector that will take place on June 18 and 19 in HuelvaOrganized by the Association of Producers and Exporters of Strawberries of Huelva (Freshuelva), integrated into FEPEX, the congress consolidates its position as a benchmark forum for analyzing current challenges, international projection, and the strategic role of these foods as allies of a healthy diet.

 

Strawberries Lead, While Blueberries, Raspberries, and Blackberries Show Strong Momentum

 

Breaking down the figures by fruit type, strawberries remain the main export product, with 255.375 tons shipped abroad in 2024, a 1% increase over the previous year. The value of these strawberry exports reached €788,5 million, a significant increase of 10%.

 

Blueberries are next in importance, registering significant growth of 17,5% in volume, reaching 87.326 tons, and 13% in value, reaching €555 million. Raspberry exports are also showing strong performance, with 60.960 tons exported (up 9%) and a value of €529 million (up 15%).

 

Blackberries, although with smaller volumes, experienced the greatest percentage growth in volume during 2024, with an impressive 45% increase compared to 2023, reaching 6.742 tons. Their value also grew by 21%, totaling €36 million. Finally, currants, with 1.476 tons, saw a 12% increase in volume, although their value decreased by 27%, reaching €3,7 million.

 

A Congress to Face the Future and Recognize Excellence

 

El X International Congress of Red Fruits As in previous editions, the event will feature a comprehensive program that will include technical conferences, panel discussions, and an exhibition area with the participation of leading companies in agricultural inputs, technology, logistics, and marketing.

 

The inaugural conference, scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, will be given by the comedian and communicator Manu SánchezThat same day, the Strawberry Awards will be presented. These awards recognize the work of individuals, organizations, and initiatives committed to the development, innovation, and prestige of the sector.

 

The event will close on Thursday the 19th at 12:30 p.m. with a presentation by renowned nutritionist and science educator Pablo Ojeda, entitled "Sowing Health: How Berries Can Lead the Nutrition of Tomorrow."

 

With an attendance exceeding 1.700 in its previous edition, the congress is preparing to once again become a key meeting point for professionals in the soft fruit sector.
