El Spanish hardware and DIY sector has started the year with outstanding results, recording a 4% growth in its exports during the first six months of 2025. The data comes from the Cofearfe Export Barometer, which places the total value of foreign sales at more than 1.500 million euros.
In the geographical breakdown, the Barcelona province is consolidated as the main exporting power, accounting for 21,89% of national sales and experiencing a growth of 19,61%. It is followed by Guipúzcoa with 17,59% and Madrid with 10,46%. Other provinces with notable performance are Valencia (+ 9,61%), Alava (+5,41%) and A Coruna (+ 7,37%).
La European Union keep being him main market for Spanish exports, accounting for 68,12% of total sales and growing by 3,13%. However, the report also highlights the strong momentum in non-traditional markets. North America increased its purchases by 19,74%, while North Africa grew by 17,45%, representing 5,67% and 4,97% of exports, respectively.
By country, the five main destinations for Spanish hardware products are:

Despite the good data, the Uncertainty looms over the US marketThe report highlights that companies in the sector show a "serious concern about the tariff increase" announced by the United States Government. All manufacturers surveyed by Cofearfe believe that these measures "will negatively affect their business and jeopardize their continued presence in this market", which has led many companies to seek more stable alternative markets.
Furthermore, the The conflict in Israel has had an unexpected impact on exports.Sales to this country increased by 40,61 % in the first quarter of 2025, driven by trade embargoes by other countries, such as Türkiye, which have shifted demand toward Spanish suppliers.
Finally, the barometer also analyses the behaviour of imports, which increased 9,15% in this first half of the year, with a trend of accelerated growth. China remains as the main supplier of hardware products in Spain, with 40,98% of the total, followed by Germany, (27,61%), Italy (14,96%) and France (12,44%).
