The report highlights that the sector employs more than one million people and has more than 218.000 companies involved in logistics activities.
Among the regions with the greatest logistical impact are: Catalonia, the Basque Country, Madrid, Andalusia and the Valencian Community. Catalonia is positioned as a leader, with a turnover of over 33.000 billion euros, representing 14,4% of the regional GDP. It is followed by the Basque Country, with a 12% impact on its GDP, and Andalucía with 6,16%.
In addition to its economic relevance, ICLE 2023 highlights the challenges facing the sector, such as the need to improve digitalization and sustainability.
The president of UNO, Francis ArandaHe highlighted the importance of logistics in Spain's economic development: "Logistics has become one of the sectors with the greatest potential in terms of GDP and employment. We cannot let this opportunity pass us by to make this sector one of the country's main economic pillars."
In addition to its economic relevance, the ICLE 2023 highlights the challenges facing the sector, such as the need to improve in digitalisation and sustainability. In this regard, the automation of logistics processes and the reduction of carbon emissions are seen as key areas to increase the competitiveness and efficiency of the sector in the coming years.
At the European level, Spain occupies the fifth position in the Logistics Performance Index (LPI), with a score of 3,9 out of 5, reflecting good performance in infrastructure, punctuality and logistics competence compared to countries such as Germany and the Netherlands.
The report also highlights Spain's competitive advantage in terms of the price of logistics land, which is considerably lower than the European average, representing an attractive opportunity for the foreign investment .
