Online conference
Mr. Josep Piqué highlighted the diversity of the countries that comprise it, their political and economic integration -ASEAN- and their growing importance in the world economy and politics, which cannot be ignored.
On Monday, October 18, the Asean Spain Business Association (ASEMPEA) held a conference open to the public with an exceptional speaker, Mr. Josep Piqué, businessman, economist and former Minister, in order to analyze the Southeast Asia as the new geostrategic center of the world.
The President of Asempea, Mr. Tomás González, was in charge of introducing the speaker and moderating the event, which was attended electronically by numerous representatives from the world of business and diplomacy.
Mr. Piqué, when introducing Southeast Asia, highlighted the diversity of the countries that comprise it, their political and economic integration -ASEAN- and their growing importance in the world economy and politics, which cannot be ignored. In this sense, he highlighted the Chinese interests in the area, both commercial and military; and, also Americans, revitalized, despite their absence from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP-11), with the recent creation of the Aukus strategic alliance.
He then explained the opportunities it presents, highlighting sectors such as agri-food, renewable energy, water and waste treatment, environment, tourism, capital goods and machinery, etc. And, when addressing the Spanish presence, he pointed out the need to increase visits and trips to the area, whether official or private, in order to improve existing political and economic ties.
Finally, he congratulated Asempea for the work it has been carrying out, promoting the presence of Spanish companies in this region, being, in this regard, a reference entity in the relations between Spain and the countries that comprise it.
