Within the framework of 15th edition of Spain Investors Day, Elisa Carbonell, CEO of ICEX - Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade, has emphasized that the sustainability has become a fundamental pillar to ensure the international competitiveness of companies. During his speech at a round table organized by the SERES Foundation and presided over by the king Felipe VI, Carbonell highlighted ICEX's pioneering role in helping companies integrate sustainable practices as an essential part of their success in the foreign markets.
In this meeting, moderated by Fernando Ruiz, President of the SERES Foundation, were attended by prominent business leaders such as Luis Gallego, CEO of IAG; Maurici Lucena, President and CEO of AENA; Manuel Terroba, President and CEO of BMW Spain; and Bernardo Velázquez, CEO of Acerinox. They all discussed strategies and management of the ESG Factors (environmental, social and governmental) in times of transformation.
Carbonell highlighted that ICEX considers sustainability a “strategic axis” for business internationalization. He also mentioned that one of his main objectives is to “attract transformative projects” that contribute significantly to the energy and digital transformation of the country. In his words: “We are actively promoting projects that complete the electric vehicle chain and other advanced technological sectors”.
The updated portfolio of the ICEX-Invest in Spain programme reflects a strong focus on projects related to energy transition. Finally, Carbonell announced the development by ICEX of a Sustainability Indicator based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), designed to evaluate each project managed under these global parameters.
